The UMHB Music Department offers six different degree plans.  They are as follows:


Bachelor of Arts in Music

Bachelor of Music
in Church Music

Bachelor of Music
in Composition


Bachelor of Music
in Music Education


Bachelor of Music
in Music History and Lit.

Bachelor of Music
in Performance




The Bachelor of Music degree has core requirements which are common to each of the five majors.  Within each major, there are specific requirements that need to be fulfilled for that particular area of study.


The Bachelor of Arts is a liberal arts degree that allows the student to declare a minor, other than music, and allows the student a number of elective hours.  It is a non-professional degree.

A Bachelor of Music degree requires a minimum of 134 semester hours of study. 

A minor in Music requires a minimum of 24 semester hours of specific courses in Music.

The program leading to the B.M. degree with a major in Music Education conforms to the certification requirements of the Texas Education Agency.
