Ms. Whitis
holds
both the Bachelor's and Master's of Music Education from Delta State
University. She also has a Music Specialist Certification from
the University of Mississippi. Additional doctoral study was done
at Texas Tech University and Sam Houston State University.
A wide range of experience fills Ms. Whitis'
résumé. She has taught on every level from
pre-school to university. Besides her college-level teaching at
Wayland Baptist University and UMHB, she has maintained a private
piano studio, served as organist and choir director for numerous
churches, and accompanied numerous soloists, musical and opera
productions, and choral ensembles. Ms. Whitis is
also a published composer (The Piano Teachers' Press) and a
certified Kindermusik instructor.
She is a member of several professional organizations including
TMTA, TMEA, MTNA, the National and Texas Federation of Music Clubs, and
a faculty member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Mrs.
Whitis is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music, holding the
professional certificate in piano and theory.
Mrs. Whitis is an associate professor of music in piano and theory at
UMHB, a position she has held since 2001. She also teaches
piano in the UMHB conservatory, is accompanist for Schola Cantorum, a
community glee club, and is the pianist at First Methodist Church
in Belton, TX.
