The UMHB
Opera/Musical Theater
program
is both an educational program and a performing ensemble. The
educational program is designed to train, develop, and prepare the
singer/actor/student for a professional career on the opera/musical
theater stage. The performing ensemble presents fully staged and
costumed productions with orchestra each year. Past productions
include Die Fledermaus, Gianni Schicchi, Impresario, The Magic Flute, Hansel &
Gretel, The Gift of the
Magi, New York &
Neapolitan Nights, Man of La Mancha, The
Old Maid and the Thief, and The
Merry Widow.
Opera Cru is an
educational/recruiting ensemble. The five members are selected by
audition and are awarded one of the largest music scholarships
available.
