CRITERIA FOR AWARDS

Music scholarships are available to new, returning, and transfer students.  All applicants are considered without regard to race, sex, national origin, religion, age or handicap.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Prospective music students wishing scholarships should contact the Music Office and should submit the following for consideration:

1)  Application For Music Scholarship (Complete the online form.)
2) Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from previous or current music teachers or professionals able to attest to the achievement in and commitment to the field of music

3) A desired audition date  (See Calendar for audition dates.)

4) Transcripts of all previous academic work



AUDITION PROCEDURE - New and Transfer Students


• Auditions are held in Hughes Recital Hall, which is located in Presser Hall on the UMHB campus.  Auditions will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m.

• Auditionees should prepare at least two selections that reveal their performance skills.  These should be memorized if possible.  Taped accompaniments are discouraged.  A brief sight-reading exercise will also be included.

• Auditionees may bring an accompanist.  Those needing an accompanist must request this in advance of the audition.  Accompanists will be available for rehearsal thirty minutes prior to the 1:00 p.m. audition time.

• Taped auditions will be accepted only if a live audition is impossible.  Audition recordings should be 10-15 minutes in length on a high quality VHS tape or DVD.
